It used to be based on English Common Law, which was in part informed by the Law of God (His Biblical 10 Commandments). The trouble now is, do we continue to water down that Law? We seem to be more and more “Liberal” with our “Law!” Perhaps because the modern “Oligarchy” has opted for the way of latter Roman Caesars who trampled the Law?

But only if our representatives have an overwhelming majority in congress. And not only that but if a state believes that the newly passed law or bill is a an infringement of their rights they may pass laws or bills to block the federal government’s decision. Congress makes laws and the pres either sign’s it into law or veto’s it. These are large bodies of government, not an oligarchyAn oligarchy answers to no one!
